I have a stairmaster #4200 for maybe 10 years, and while using it, the stairs suddenly give way and drop down. What causes this and what part needs to be replaced?[/size][/b]

I assume they give way when you go to step on them. You will want to check the alternator brushes. If that is t the problem then it could be related to the transmission hub assembly. But the hub assembly usually lose resistance intermittently, which is what leads me to believe you need to replace the alternator brushes and retest. Let me know.
